I had a fantastic experience at the Harvard Public Service Recruiting Day this fall. My peers and I were so grateful that the Institute of Politics, the Dean for Public Service at Harvard College, the Center for Public Interest Careers, and the Office of Career Services collaborated to make this day a reality, and I could not have envisioned it going better. Harvard students interested in public sector careers have long seen the logistical benefits of on-campus recruiting for the private sector, and I am glad those of us interested in public service had the opportunity this year to experience those same benefits. The Public Service Recruiting Day exposed students to an array of organizations, facilitated networking, and streamlined the interview process, all of which make getting a job in the tough-to-break-into public sector more straightforward.
I personally had a great time meeting representatives from 270 Strategies and talking all things politics with them. It was reassuring and refreshing to see that I could pursue my passion for politics while still making a living in the working world. From speaking with my classmates throughout the day at the interview location and at the post-interview reception, I gathered they felt the same way. I very much enjoyed going through this process with my friends from the IOP and other public service organizations on campus. It is exciting to think we could all cross paths again after college.
The Public Service Recruiting Day was a great resource for me and other students, and I know it will be an increasingly meaningful day for seniors in the future.
